As “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” completed a decade since its release, director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, actor Farhan Akhtar, and producer Ajit Adhare gathered to commemorate the iconic biopic based on the life of legendary athlete Milkha Singh. The film not only touched hearts upon its initial release but continues to inspire and resonate with audiences, especially the younger generation.

During an interview with Newshelpline on the sidelines of the 10th-anniversary special screening of “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag,” Mehra was asked about the possibility of a sequel or adaptation for an OTT platform. The director responded with enthusiasm, expressing his eagerness to explore further chapters in Milkha Singh’s life. He stated, “I wish, if I get the opportunity to make Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Part 2, Part 3, and get the inspiration, but I will leave it for the younger generation now to take this inspiring story forward. There are many creative ways of correlating stories and take it to the next level, so that will be amazing.”

Despite his desire to continue the narrative, Mehra believes in the power of passing the torch to the younger generation of filmmakers to carry Milkha Singh’s story forward. He added, “See, whatever I could do or understood or knew, I have put it in this film, and if I start saying something more, I don’t want to disturb the original image of the movie.”

“Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” remains an iconic biopic that has touched the lives of countless individuals since its release. Mehra shared his joy in witnessing how the film continues to inspire and resonate with the youth. He said, “It’s been 10 years, and the way it inspired people when it was released, it continues to inspire them even now. The new generation is relating to the film—the kid who was four years old is now 14 years old, and she messages me about the film; the kid who was 10 years old is now 20 years old. So, the new generation is getting inspired from the film.”

Apart from celebrating its 10th anniversary, “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” also extended its reach to the members of the audience with hearing and speech impairment. A special version of the film was created with sign language to ensure that the inspiring story of Milkha Singh reaches a wider audience.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, known for his brilliance in storytelling, has crafted several classic sagas like “Rang De Basanti,” “Aks,” and “Delhi 6.” His passion for depicting remarkable real-life stories has earned him accolades and a special place in the hearts of movie enthusiasts.
