Chicago, USA – July 8, 2023 – The highly anticipated 4th edition of the Vadilal International Gujarati Film Festival (IGFF) commenced on July 7th with great enthusiasm, marking its opening day with the grand premiere of the Gujarati film ‘Locha Lapsi,’ featuring popular actor Malhar Thakar. Held at the prestigious Cine Lounge in Chicago, USA, the festival witnessed a massive turnout as the Gujarati community came together to celebrate and support Gujarati cinema.
The IGFF has made a significant impact on the cultural landscape, with each of its previous editions garnering overwhelming responses. After being held in New Jersey in 2018 and Los Angeles in 2019, the festival made a triumphant return in Atlanta, GA, in 2022 after a hiatus caused by the global pandemic. The opening night of the 4th edition of IGFF saw the presence of numerous dignitaries, including renowned Festival Jury members Gopi Desai, Jay Vasavada, and S.J. Chiro, along with popular Gujarati film actor Malhar Thakar, legendary Gujarati folk singer Atul Purohit, versatile Bollywood actor Darshan Pandya, Gujarati film director Niraj Joshi, and film producer Milap Singh Jadeja. Organizers of the festival, Mr. Kaushal Acharya and Mr. Hemant Brambhatt, were overwhelmed by the audience’s demand for more Gujarati film screenings in their hometown every year, highlighting the growing popularity and success of the festival.
Prior to the festival, IGFF hosted a pre-event ‘Bhajiya’ party at the 41st floor of The North Fairbanks Condo Hotel in Chicago. Festival jury members and esteemed guests graced the occasion, further enhancing the festival’s celebratory spirit and camaraderie.
The festival will continue for two more days, with various Gujarati films being showcased on July 8th. The closing ceremony on July 9th will feature an award ceremony for the official selection films, followed by a cultural musical performance by the legendary Gujarati singer, Shree Atul Purohit. The event will conclude with a grand gala cocktail dinner, providing attendees with a memorable experience.
