The trailer launch of ‘Dono,’ marking the directorial debut of Avnish Barjatya, was a moment of pride and nostalgia for the Barjatya family. The event, attended by actors Sunny Deol, Poonam Dhillon, and filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya, witnessed the unveiling of Avnish’s first venture into filmmaking.

As the spotlight shone on the third generation of the Barjatya clan entering the world of cinema, Sooraj Barjatya, the veteran filmmaker known for iconic family-oriented films, shared his initial thoughts and the legacy of Rajshri Productions.

Avnish’s Unexpected Journey to Filmmaking

Sooraj Barjatya, the man behind classics like ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’ and ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain,’ began by confessing that he had never imagined his son would choose a career in filmmaking. He humorously revealed, “I always thought my son would be a chartered accountant. Now, he is making his directorial debut, and the thought of him as a filmmaker never struck me.”

He continued, “One day, he came to me and said he wants to be a director. I kept silent for some time, and then I told him the same two things my father told me: If you want to be a director, you need to want to say something. If you have something to say, only then become a director. I am so happy that this is a film where he wanted to say something, and he has his own voice.”

This candid admission reflects the surprise and pride that Sooraj Barjatya feels as he watches his son venture into the world of filmmaking.

Rajshri Productions: Values and Legacy

Rajshri Productions has been a symbol of family-centric cinema, emphasizing relationships, values, and weddings. Sooraj Barjatya spoke fondly of the production house’s enduring legacy and its continued resonance with audiences.

“I can only express my gratitude because we are told that films are our dharma and karma, as my uncle always told me. You can see it for yourself; Rajshri films receive the same kind of love they did back in the day. Wherever I go, people still recognize me from ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’. It is unbelievable to receive so much love and respect. This is possible because we have stuck to our values and have kept things simple, making films that resonate with our hearts,” shared Sooraj.

He acknowledged the enduring love and affection Rajshri films receive from audiences across generations. The simplicity and authenticity of their storytelling have been a hallmark of their success.

The Rajshri Legacy Continues

As Avnish Barjatya embarked on his directorial journey with ‘Dono,’ Sooraj Barjatya expressed his support and encouragement. He said, “When Avnish told me about the concept of ‘Dono,’ I simply said, ‘Make whatever you want to make, but remember that Rajshri’s audience will also come to watch it.’ We have made films in the past, we are making films today, and sometimes they work, and sometimes they don’t.”

Sooraj Barjatya concluded by expressing his happiness at launching three of his children—Avnish, Rajveer, and Paloma—into the world of cinema.
