It’s a momentous occasion for Bollywood as the blockbuster film “Khal-Nayak” marks its 30th anniversary. To commemorate this cinematic milestone, actor Sanjay Dutt, who played the role of Balu Balram in the film, shares some of his cherished memories from the set, along with his co-stars and filmmaker Subhash Ghai.

The 30th-anniversary celebration of “Khal-Nayak” saw the reunion of the film’s key members, including Sanjay Dutt, Subhash Ghai, Jackie Shroff, Arun Bali, Ali Asgar, singer Alka Yagnik, and more. As they gathered to reminisce about the film’s success, Sanjay Dutt couldn’t help but express his gratitude and nostalgia.

Recalling his experiences and memories from the film, Sanjay Dutt said, “I have very special and beautiful memories of the film. The cast was fantastic, and working with Jackie Shroff has always been so much fun. But to be honest, the madness of Ballu Balram wasn’t created by me; it was Subhash Ghai who envisioned it. It is iconic, and I would like to thank the audience and my entire crew.”

“Khal-Nayak,” written, directed, and produced by Subhash Ghai under Mukta Arts Ltd., revolves around the escape and attempted capture of the criminal Ballu (played by Dutt) by sub-Inspector Ram (Shroff) and his cop girlfriend Ganga (played by Madhuri Dixit).

One of the film’s standout elements was the sensational song “Choli Ke Peeche,” which continues to be an iconic and groovy number. The song sparked controversy during the film’s release due to its bold and provocative lyrics.

Sanjay Dutt fondly recalled a memorable moment when he had to perform the song while wearing a female outfit. He shared, “I came to the sets, wearing my character’s outfit, and Subhash Ghai was like, ‘Put some Ghaghra-Choli on him.’ I was so shocked; I even asked him, ‘What are you doing?’ But he said, ‘You go ahead and wear it, and I wanted to know why I need to wear Choli,’ and he said, ‘You’re doing the ‘Choli Ke Peeche’ song.’ It was like a teasing scene with Madhuri ji.”

As the celebration of “Khal-Nayak” continues, fans are reminded of the film’s enduring legacy and its impact on Indian cinema. Sanjay Dutt’s portrayal of Ballu Balram remains etched in the memories of cinephiles, and the film’s iconic songs continue to be cherished by audiences.

Looking ahead, Sanjay Dutt has an exciting lineup of projects, including “Jawan,” “The Good Maharaja,” “Ghudchadi,” “Leo,” “Baap,” “Double ismart,” “Sheran Di Kaum Punjabi,” and more, ensuring that his fans will have plenty to look forward to in the coming years.
