Estimated read time 2 min read

On the second day of its release, early estimates posted at 8 pm by trade tracker Sacnilk suggest that “Dunki” is poised to earn approximately Rs 14.63 crore nett on Friday. This brings the film’s total collection in India to Rs 43.63 crore. The dip in earnings can be attributed to a lower occupancy rate of 25.20% in the Hindi-speaking regions of the country.

Competition Impact

The intense competition posed by Prashanth Neel’s action-thriller “Salaar” played a significant role in affecting “Dunki’s” box office performance. “Salaar,” featuring Prabhas in the lead, stormed the theaters with a staggering gross collection of around Rs 135 crore in India on its opening day. Globally, it is anticipated to surpass Rs 175 crore in earnings.

Global Collection and Crucial Christmas Weekend

Despite the domestic struggles, “Dunki” managed to accumulate a commendable global collection of Rs 58 crore, as reported by Red Chillies Entertainment. The upcoming Christmas weekend holds immense importance for the film. The box office fate during this period will significantly impact its prospects of sustaining audience interest until the New Year weekend.

Audience Response and Critical Reception

“Dunki,” boasting a star-studded cast including Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and Boman Irani, has received a mixed response from the audience. Shubhra Gupta, in a critical 1.5-star review, labeled the movie as “a crashing bore.” Gupta expressed disappointment in the writing, highlighting the absence of the signature zest of Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi. However, Vicky Kaushal’s performance garnered praise for its brief yet memorable impact.

The Way Forward

As the film faces challenges at the box office, the Christmas weekend will be a make-or-break period for “Dunki.” Its performance during this crucial time will determine its ability to hold its ground in theaters until the New Year weekend.

Shah Rukh Khan’s “Dunki” grapples with a significant drop in box office earnings on its second day, facing tough competition from the action-packed “Salaar.” The film’s fate hinges on its performance during the upcoming Christmas weekend, with global collections offering a glimmer of hope. As the audience provides a mixed response, “Dunki” stands at a critical juncture, striving to find its footing in the competitive landscape of Bollywood.
