Singer Rekha Bhardwaj condemns terrorist attack on Amarnath pilgrims

On Wednesday, eminent singer Rekha Bhardwaj attended ‘Khazana ‘a festival of Ghazals , to raise funds for Cancer Aid and Thalassemia awareness in Mumbai . Anup Jalota, Pankaj Udhas, Talat Aziz, Papon, Sona Mohapatra also attended the event. While speaking to media, Rekha condemned terrorist Attack on Amarnath pilgrims saying it is not acceptable at all.
Terrorist executed attack on Amarnath Yatra pilgrims in south Kashmir in which seven people were killed on Monday night.
Condemning the attack, she said, “Any terrorist activity is not acceptable at all. No one has the right to take anyone’s life just to prove their point and as a human being we should look beyond extremist activities not only in India but around the world”.
Talking about Ghazal as genre, she said, “Ghazal gives you some kind of relief to your heart and mind. Ghazal is form of shayari and poetry which presents various moods of human beings at different stages of life that is why it is so relatable.”
“Ghazal is such form that it goes through its low point at some point of time but again it comes up to its own peak so in last 3-4 years, I feel ghazals are cementing its place as music form . This festival has contributed a lot in that prospect so I am proud and fortunate to be part of Khazana Ghazal festival and I feel this is the way to expand and expansion is the only way to grow”.
Talking about the Khazana festival, she said, ‘This programme has been organized from last 16 years and the great thing about the festival is , it is started to preserve and promote ghazals, shayari and poetry as a form plus the revenue from sale of tickets also goes to charity so it’s a kind of doubles the happiness.”
Apart from that, it’s a opportunity to new singers who are especially making their career in ghazal to showcase their talent. Many eminent singers across the country perform in this festival which again a great opportunity to ghazal lovers and budding singers to see and learn from performances of senior singers”.
The Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA), the Parents Association Thalassemic Unit Trust (PATUT) will raise funds for Cancer and Thalassemic patients and children through an annual event that provides a rare opportunity for Ghazal aficionados to experience the rich and vibrant performances of India’s top performers
‘Khazana a Festival of Ghazals’ is a concept over sixteen years old, which began as a platform for Ghazal artists to showcase their talent to an audience that appreciated their musical talent. This is spearheaded by Padmashri Pankaj Udhas.
