Madhur Bhandarkar says we are not giving away the right message as an industry

On Tuesday, in a personal interview Madhur Bhandarkar spoke about how we are giving away a bad message as an industry, that we can’t create films like Indu Sarkar or let them release in theaters.

Don’t you think there should be a law protecting such films and artists the filmmaker Madhur said, “There is a law which states the one you is responsible for theaters losses has to pay for them. Attacking theaters and causing delays in release by creating scenes isn’t giving away a good message. Internationally it’s giving out a message that we can’t make such films. In abroad there are so many films that come out about civil rights, there nobody has any issues. ”

Madhur also spoke about the film Indu Sarkar and how people should react to the story, he said, “We want to present a nice story; we just wanted to show her (Indu) story in the emergency era. I think people should first watch the film and see that this story is just about our protagonist Indu and her husband.”

The bold and gusty filmmaker also spoke why today’s youth should visit the theaters to watch Indu Sarkar, he said, “They will be able to learn how important is freedom for an India, which was suppressed in that period, like press was banned, people could not speak out or raise their voices about the government so things like that are so different after 42 years and so important even now. Youth today isn’t aware about that era, and what happened in the period of 21 months. “

He further added, “They will understand what emergency was, some important aspects and incidents that occurred. I have tried my best to portray all of that in a 2 hours 9 minutes long film which will be through Indu’s point of view.”

“Artists are soft target in our country. Film and cricket, these are the two things that people in our country always connect to. Film is a medium that always intimidates people, people always try to attack filmmakers because it gives them publicity, it can make them a national hero.”

As a filmmaker Madhur always wanted to work on a periodic film he said, “As a film maker I always wanted to make a period film. I wanted to work in that era and bring it back.”

Indu Sarkar by Madhur Bhandarkar is a story about Indu Sarkar in an era of emergency. The film stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Supriya Vinod, Kirti Kulhari and Anupam Kher. The film is set to release in cinemas on July 28, 2017.
