Actor Kunaal Roy Kapur, who has recently starred in a film titled ‘Tribhanga – Tedhi Medhi Crazy’, has said that he wasn’t sure about playing the character of Milan in a social drama film as he has played most of the comical roles in the past. He added saying that film’s director Renuka Shahane had faith in him and after that things got easy for him while shooting for the film.
Kunaal Roy Kapur was interacting with News Helpline on Tuesday in Mumbai.
Written and directed by Renuka Shahane, ‘Tribhanga – Tedhi Medhi Crazy’ stars Kajol, Tanvi Azmi and Mithila Palkar in the leading roles, the film revolves around a dysfunctional family of three women and their unconventional life choices. The title is derived from an indian classical dance pose from Odissi, which is described as imperfect but beautiful quite like the lives of the three women.
In the film, Kapur plays the role of Milan, a writer who is helping Nayantara (Tanvi Azmi) in writing her autobiography. Talking about his role in the film, Kapur said, “Renuka (Shahane) and Siddharth P Malhotra (producer of the film) approached me for this role. When I went through the whole script, I wasn’t very confident because my background is not very similar to the character, so I was quite concerned whether I would be able to play the character but Renuka had full faith in me.”
He added, “It was a very different role for me because I have mostly played comedy roles in the past. Even this role had some subtle comical elements but it’s a very serious role otherwise but Renuka instilled that confidence in me. In the film, I speak very fluent Hindi but in real life, I speak very Mumbaiya Hindi, so it was a bit difficult for me but I took it up as a challenge to try and do something different, so it was a great experience for me working on this film.”
Talking about audience feedback about his character in the film, Kapur said, “I have been getting a lot of messages and calls from my family and friends. They are very happy with the film and my performance in it, so I am lapping up all the love and attention. It feels nice when your work is appreciated, so I am feeling happy at the moment.”
Talking about his experience working with Kajol in the film who is considered as one of prominent actresses of the film industry, he said, “She is very outspoken as a person in this film and in real life as well. She doesn’t have that many inhibitions as a person. It didn’t feel like I am working with a superstar of Indian film industry. She was very cooperative on the sets of the film, so it was a very comfortable environment while shooting for the film.”
‘Tribhanga – Tedhi Medhi Crazy’ released on Netflix on 15th January.
