Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has given us some cult films like Rang De Basanti, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and now his upcoming film 'Toofaan' is all set to make its premiere on Amazon Prime on July 16. Trailer of the film has been released and it has created a stir. The director spoke to News Helpline about the film and much moreTalking about the film, he said, "When we start a film there is a certain sense and dream to fulfill. It is like an empty canvas and you start painting. When we saw the first cut of Toofaan, we realised we made a world seller. It was not hollywood or bollywood but the film will cross the boundaries. I feel happy and blessed that the film is in right hands now as it will be streaming in 240 countries.’
Sharing his experience on working on a fictional sports drama, he said, "When we started working on Toofan, I realised boxing is a contact sport. It is not like others. Here, you need to hit the other person. Unlike cricket, or football, or athletics. You are running but in different tracks. In boxing, you have to hit.”He further added,"By far, Toofaan has been the most challenging film for me. If I were to put Rang De Basanti and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag in a mixer grinder, what will come out is Toofan”The director felt directing this film was liberating for him. Talking about the same, he said, "It was liberating to direct 'Toofaan'. It also had the subject matter I felt very close to. I don’t want to give away the plot because the joy of discovery should always be with the audience”
He has worked with Farhan for the second time in the film. Sharing his experience working with him, he said, "The core idea of Toofaan came from Farhan. When I first heard the four line narration, I knew this is going to be a long but beautiful journey. Farhan understands the craft inside out which has made my work shine more.”Film Toofan is directed by Rakeysh OmPrakash Mehra starring Farhan Akhtar as a National Level Boxer, alongside Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal in supporting roles.
