Huma Qureshi who is currently gearing up for the release of her upcoming film, Partition: 1947 in an interview on Tuesday said, Gangs of Wasseypur was a perfect launch for her.
“I am a product of Anurag Kashyap’s cinema, he directed my debut film and I am glad that Gangs of Wasseypur was my first film. When I was working on the film I didn’t realize it then but the specialty of the film is that no matter where you are from you will enjoy the film and will be able to relate to it. I think in that sense that Gangs of Wasseypur was a perfect launch for me. The film wasn’t a success only on our Box office but also received international appreciation. It was dubbed in various languages. As an actor, the film was very important for me because it gave a direction to my future journey. ” Said Huma.
Partition: 1947 has been directed by Gurinder Chadha, and also stars Gillian Anderson, late actor Om Puri, Manish Dayal and Michael Gambon. The film was screened at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival as Viceroy’s House.
Huma playing the lead role in the film was asked what should the audience expect and does the film have a political aspect she said, “This film unmasks the biggest conspiracy that ever happened, we don’t know why partition took place. While researching for this film Gurinder Chadha came across certain documents that were classified by the British government back in the day and were now declassified.
And she found certain aspects of the history that we didn’t know and aren’t taught to us in school. The film brings forth these aspects. It is important to know even if through a movie because it’s a part of our history. I don’t think this film has any political reference at all for the current existing political party.”
When asked what type of cinema does she prefer working in she said, “I don’t understand types in cinema, I understand interesting films. There are good films and bad films. You should try to choose good scripts and work with people who you want to work with and will be comfortable with. Should work with people that you believe can do justice with the story. I like working with people who are purists, who will make films for the story. ”
Partition: 1947 marks Huma Qureshi’s international debut. Huma Qureshi debuted in 2012 with ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ 1 and 2 directed by Anurag Kashyap. She was last seen in Jolly LLB 2 and her future projects include a Tamil film titled Kaala directed by Pa. Ranjith.
Partition: 1947 presented by Reliance Entertainment will release on 18th August in India.
