Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu who is gearing up with her latest outing Thappad, says that 80% of women go through domestic violence on the sidelines of her recent media interaction in Mumbai.
Taapsee Pannu along with Anubhav Sinha, Dia Mirza, Tanvi Azmi and more hosted a special screening of Thappad and interacted with media.
Taapsee who is known for her unadulterated opinions on social issues, will be seen playing the role of a housewife in Thappad, who is determined to leave her husband after he slaps her at a party.
When asked what influenced her to do this film, on this Taapsee said, “I have been saying through all my promotion and even in my dream I can say that 3 out of 5 women go through this. 80% of women are going through domestic violence, including the reported ones and also the unreported. From a slap to hitting, the domestic violence is going on. It’s not in my house but it is happening with my friends and with my neighbours. So I didn’t had to go far to get affected or influence by such incidents. It was easily visible around me”
“In a films we do address such things but at a smaller extent. No one takes such head on to do such films. When I got the offer to do this film, I directly jumped on to do it. I really feel lucky that I got a chance to do a film on social issues” added Taapsee.
‘Thappad’ is a drama film,directed and co-produced with Bhushan Kumar by Anubhav Sinha. The film stars Taapsee Pannu and Pavail Gulati.
It is scheduled to release on 28 February 2020.
