Brigadier Kuldip Singh Chandpuri was a Great Soldier Says Sunny Deol

Superstar Sunny Deol expressed his grief on the demise of real-life hero Brigadier Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, the hero of the famous Battle of Longewala, on which his character from Border was based.

Brigadier Kuldip Singh was suffering from cancer and passed away at the Fortis Hospital in Mohali, Punjab. He was 78.
Actor Sunny Deol, who played the role of Brigadier in war drama Border, took to his social media profile and expressed his grief and stated that we will be indebted to the “great soldier”.

He wrote, “Sad to know that Brigadier Kuldeep Chandpuri passed away today. We will forever stay indebted to this great soldier”
The Indian classic war drama film, Border was helmed by J. P. Dutta. The film starred an ensemble cast of Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna and Jackie Shroff in pivotal roles. The film is an adaptation from real life events that happened at the Battle of Longewala during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

It is the same battle where Kuldip Singh Chandpuri was posted and he was commanding a small group of just over a 100 soldiers and successfully defended the Longewala border post in Rajasthan against around 2000 Pakistani soldiers who were backed by more than 40 tanks. His company managed to deflate e the Pakistani attempt to advance past the Longewala post for an entire night on December 4-5.
