Assamese film ‘Village Rockstars’ is India’s official entry for Oscar 2019

The national award-winning film, ‘Village Rockstars‘ directed by Rima Das has become India’s contender for Oscar 2018

Film Federation of India (FFI) has hosted a press conference on Saturday to announce the entry with an all-India jury under the chairmanship of Kannada producer Rajendra Singh Babu.

‘Village Rockstars’ based in Assam is the story of poor but amazing children who live a fun-filled life. The film is said to be based in the director’s own village of Chhaygaon.
It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and also won the Best Feature film Award at the 65th National Film Awards.
Some of the other films that were part of the list were Padmaavat, Manto, Padman, Gali Guleiyan, Love Sonia. October, Raazi in Hindi and Nude, Bogda in Marathi among more Tamil, Malayalam, Gujrathi, Telugu, and Kannada films.

The 91st Academy Awards will be held on February 24, 2019.

Rima Das’ directorial “Village Rockstars”, will also be screen as part of the India Gold 2018 at the Mumbai Film Festival 2018.
