Serena Williams is not only a tennis champion, but she is also a first time mother to an adorable baby girl which means it’s the first time she has ever had to balance both her career and parenthood. And that’s not all! Serena is also dealing with many post-partum emotions and trying to keep them in check.

Today, she took to social media to open up about her return to the court following the birth of her daughter back in September.

‘Last week was not easy for me. Not only was I accepting some tough personal stuff, but I just was in a funk,’ the sportswoman started, referring to her defeat in front of Johanna Konta, probably the worst of her career.

Not only that but Serena also decided to pull out of the Rogers Cup tournament in Canada because of ‘personal reasons.’

In the caption of a snap of her overlooking the sea while standing on a rock, she went on to explain that ‘Mostly, I felt I was not a good mom. I read articles that said postpartum emotions could last up to three years if not dealt with. I like communication the best. Talking things through with my mom, sisters, my friends, lets me know my feelings are totally normal. It is totally normal to feel like I am not doing enough for my baby. We have all been there. I work a lot, I train, and I am trying to be the best athlete I can be.

I work a lot, I train, and I’m trying to be the best athlete I can be. However, that means although I have been with her every day of her life, I’m not around as much as I would like to be. Most of you moms deal with the same thing. Whether stay-at-home or working, finding that balance with kids is a true art. You are the true heroes. I’m here to say: if you are having a rough day or week–it’s ok–I am, too!!! There’s always tomm!

Finally, her very vulnerable open letter ended with the tennis star addressing her fans, telling them that regardless how much of a rough day we all may have, ‘there’s always tomorrow.’
