Infinity War’ Directors On The Journey They Wanted To Take…

Avengers Infinity War Thor Marvel

During the Vudu Viewing Party for Avengers: Infinity War, directors Anthony and Joe Russo talked a bit about the journey that they wanted to take Thor on for the film.

During Infinity War it would not be an exaggeration to say that Thor probably gets it the worst. In Avengers‘ first ten minutes he witnesses the death of his best friend, Heimdall, (Idris Elba), and his adopted brother, Loki, (Tom Hiddleston), at the hands of Thanos, (Josh Brolin) and half of his people massacred. During the Vudu Viewing Party, the director, Joe Russo, talked about the journey that they wanted to take Thor on and the odd paring with Rocket Raccoon, (Bradly Cooper):

Thor is at his lowest point that he’s been in any of the films. He’s lost everything and he’s been partnered up with Rocket who is perhaps one of the least emotional characters in the Marvel Universe. We thought that would be an interesting pairing if Thor had to pour his heart out to a character who, to a certain extent lacks empathy and see if it would affect that character in some way. And I think what we love so much about that scene is how complicated the tone is. It’s at times absurd and funny and at times completely tragic.

Anthony Russo then added his own opinions on the matter, comparing it to the journey they took Captain America, (Chris Evens), on during the Captain America sequels:

It’s a threshold moment for the character where you really realize that he has nothing left and for us as story tellers that’s…that’s a…it’s a wonderful place to take a character when you strip everything away. I mean that’s something we tried to do with Captain America throughout our run with him and to have Thor in a similar place and to to be able to find what’s left when you take everything away from Thor—it’s a great journey for us as storytellers.

From the sound of things the two really enjoy stripping the characters of their status quo and seeing how they react to it all. And based on how people have reacted to them, the Avengers films and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are all the better for it.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Peter Dinklage, Benedict Wong, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Chris Pratt, Danai Gurira and Letitia Wright. Here’s the official synopsis:

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

Avengers: Infinity War is available on Digital HD and will be avalible on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on August 14, 2018.

10 Marvel & DC Villains Who Can Take Down Thanos

< ?xml encoding="UTF-8"???>

Thanos Marvel DC Comics Darkseid GalactusThanos may have just taken down some of Marvel’s finest superheroes in Avengers: Infinity War, but he’s not the deadliest villain in comics. Both DC and Marvel are full of characters who are more powerful than the Mad Titan.

Admittedly, whenever Thanos is in possession of all six infinity stones he is the most powerful being in the universe, but anyone can harness that power if they successfully gather all the necessary components. If anything, Thanos is just incredibly patient and willing to wait to achieve his goals, a trait not many supervillains in DC or Marvel have. With the gauntlet, Thanos is essentially an immortal God who can snap his fingers and turn entire worlds to dust, but without it he’s just another villain who wants to rule the universe. He’s clearly a strong and terrifying guy, but if he were to face any of these villains without his Gauntlet, Thanos would be in big trouble.
