Shahid Kapoor who is gearing up for the release of ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ said, audience reactions to ‘Haider’ and ‘Udta Punjab’ makes him want to do more films like his upcoming release.
Shahid Kapoor interacted with media at the trailer launch of the forthcoming film, ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ on Friday.
When asked why is it essential to make issue based films with stars, Shahid said, “It is to reach wider audience, especially when you make a film based on an issue which is relevant to the country. I have done films like these in the past. We have done ‘Haider’ together that was on human rights issue in a state like Kashmir. Then I did a film called ‘Udta Punjab’ which is about the drug problem in Punjab and today I am doing ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ .
It is my third film which talks about something that is relevant social issue and something that people in the country are going through. After I did those two films in the past the kind of love that I got from people who were affected by that situation was overwhelming.”
The ‘Padmavat’ actor also said, he feels proud to be able to work on the electricity issue and bring to limelight.
“People have called me, got in touch with me and said because we spoke about the issue it became big enough for the media to be interested in it. And when the media gets interested in it then it becomes an issue where someone has to do something about it. Making films on these issues and bringing them to a wider audience is not just part of entertainment but it is trying to do something on a human level that is relevant and good for the country. So I feel very proud that I got the chance to do this film.”
