Rekha along with Parineeti Chopra, Jackie Shroff honored Asha Bhosle with the 5th ‘Yash Chopra Memorial Award’ on Friday. Rekha Asha Bhosle by saying that she would never have been able to dance or act without Asha Tai’s voice.
While addressing the crowd Reha who portrayed Asha Bhosle’s voice on screen in songs like ‘Dil cheez kya hai; and ‘In aankhon ki masti’ said, “Asha Tai has always a part of me that’s what I believe. The most beautiful and integral part of me, I didn’t know it then when I was a child but when she started singing for me that’s when I realized what I actually meant to me.”
The veteran actress Rekha said she believes Asha Tai is responsible for her great performances, she added, “Asha Tai and Lata Didi are two apples of my eye. I can’t separate them. For me, they are conjoint twins that complete this little thing called Rekha. I would like to thank Asha Tai for pouring the soul into my performances, for being the sole voice of whatever I have done in the films. Because without her and her feelings I would have never been able to dance like that or bring that look in my eyes.”
The evergreen Bhosle has been singing playback in Hindi films for nearly seven decades. It that has earned her an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for recording over 11,000 songs in 20 different languages.
The award jury members comprising Chopra’s wife Pamela Chopra, filmmakers Boney Kapoor, Madhur Bhandarkar, singer Alka Yagnik, actor Padmini Kohlapure, scriptwriter Honey Irani, and Anu and Shashi Ranjan made the announcements earlier this year.
The award’s previous 4 recipients were Lata Mangeshkar, Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha and Shah Rukh Khan.
The award has been instituted by the TSR Foundation of T Subbarami Reddy in memory of the producer-director, Yash Chopra who died in 2012.
