Sridevi’s body has been handed over to her family, announced the twitter account of government officials in Dubai on Tuesday evening. The investigation into her death has now been closed.
The Dubai government’s media office took to Twitter to address the matter themselves, a tweet by their official Twitter account read, “Dubai Public Prosecution has approved the release of the body of the Indian actress Sridevi to her family following the completion of a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of her death”
followed by assuring the officials followed all required procedures “Dubai Public Prosecution stressed that all regular procedures followed in such cases have been completed. As per the forensic report, the death of the Indian actress occurred due to accidental drowning following loss of consciousness. The case has now been closed,”
Sridevi, who was in Dubai to attend a family wedding, died in a hotel room on Saturday.
A forensic report said she “accidentally drowned” in a bathtub after losing consciousness. The superstar’s body is now being embalmed and is being flown back today to Mumbai where last rites will be held.
Sridevi, 54 survived by husband Bonney Kapoor and two daughters Jhanvi and Khushi Kapoor. Sridevi returned to the big screen after 15 years in 2012 with the smash-hit “English Vinglish”. She followed it up with the thriller “Mom”. She shot for a special appearance in superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film – “Zero” – which releases in December.
