Shahid Kapoor surprised his fans at the Chandan theater on Sunday. The actor paid a visit to find out audience reaction on Padmaavat. During an interaction, Shahid said the film has received a lot of love from the audience in spite of releasing in fewer theaters.
While talking about the films strong collection at box office Shahid said, “It is overwhelming. I think still there are parts of the country where the film hasn’t released properly. And in spite of it, we have managed to make such a collection, it’s incredible. At first, people were hesitant to watch the film due to safety issues. But on the second day, we went up to 32 crores which is amazing, it is a huge number. I just wish everyone is able to watch the film and appreciate their story. The fact that after releasing in fewer theaters we have still managed to make so much money shows how much the audience has loved the film.”
Shahid essays the role of Maharaja Rawal Ratan Singh who has been stated to be the least known characters of all three, was asked why he decided to take the role, he said, “There are some films that are very close to your heart and then there are some films which you have to experience with other people. I did this character of Rawal Ratan Singh, for people, because I wanted people to know more about him, about his valor, and his sacrifices.”
Swara Bhaskar on Saturday called the filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali out for the glorification of Sati and Jauhar in his film, Padmaavat, in an open letter published in The Wire.
When asked to comment on the same Shahid said, “I heard that Swara wrote a letter, honestly, I haven’t read it yet. We have been busy with other things, but I think this isn’t the right time. Padmaavat is representing the film industry and its freedom of expression. It has been a tough battle for us to be able to bring forth the film to the audience. It feels great to receive support from the entire industry, but it feels odd that someone said something on a personal level. That’s ok though, everyone has the right to say what they want but I haven’t read it yet.”
