Sonam Kapoor, Priya Dutt, and Twinkle Khanna were present at the Grand Finale of the ‘She’s Ambassador’ program on Thursday. Sonam Kapoor during interaction said that she is proud to be of ‘Pad Man’ which deals relevant issue of menstruation.
Sonam while addressing the students sitting in the audience said, “When I was in school they taught us about cleanliness and hygiene but they never thought us about periods, menstrual hygiene or about the biological function. When Balki sir and Twinkle Ma’am approached me for ‘Pad Man’, I was very surprised with the subject matter.
I was very happy that they were making a film on the topic and when I did the film I was very proud to be a part of it.” she added.
While talking about menstrual hygiene Sonam said, “I know as a girl how important it is to feel confident about who you are. Being clean hygienic, confident and getting your period does not mean something is wrong. It actually means you are special, it gives the privilege of giving birth and men can’t do that, only you can do that. It makes you amazing and special.”
Twinkle who initiated the film ‘Pad Man’ concerning the issue of female hygiene, during interaction with young girls said, “It is a great pleasure to be here. I thought we were among the first to make a movie on menstruation, but you girls seem to have beaten us to that (laughs). I was amazed by these 1-minute videos. I would like to thank PVR and the ‘She ambassadors’ program for their forays into education.”
5 short films created by the young girls as part of the She’s Ambassador program were showcased at the event. Pretty Powerful Pad Man awards were also present to the 5 winners of the filmmaking workshop held by the program.
Mumbai Obstetrics Gynaecological Society (MOGS) and PVR Nest, CSR arm of PVR Ltd., partnered for “She’s Ambassador” program – a first-ever health and leadership program to develop health champions.
The program aims to empower young people to make educational and sustainable decisions favorable to healthy lifestyles and social development.
Based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, ‘Pad Man’ is the story of how one man came up with a revolutionary method of producing cost-effective sanitary napkins and empowered thousands of women across the country in the process. Akshay Kumar has stepped into the shoes of Muruganantham and is all set to educate the masses.
‘Pad Man’ starring Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in lead and directed by R. Balki will release on 9th Feb 2018.
