Akshay Kumar launched ‘Saale Sapne’ song from his upcoming film ‘Pad Man’ along with Sonam Kapoor and R. Balki on special programme organized by Zee News where Akshay Kumar and his film’s team felicitated 16 Indian innovators across the country on Friday in Mumbai. During media interaction, Akshay said that Pad Man’s box-office collection doesn’t matter to him.
When Akshay asked whether is bothered with the box-office collection of ‘Pad Man’, Akshay said, “I am not thinking about of much money it will collect from box-office. It doesn’t matter to me. For me, the biggest thing was when I saw 3-4 youngsters outside my vanity van discussing an issue on menstruation so I don’t think there is a big achievement of this film than this when 3-4 males talk about the issue of menstruation. It is not necessary for me to think about how much business this film of mine is going to do but when each day morning, when I monitor my social media that time I see people are talking about sanitary pad and it hasn’t happened earlier when people openly discussing about issue of menstruation and that is I feel my film’s biggest victory”
When asked Akshay why he is constantly choosing to do socially relevant when his commercial potboilers earn huge amount of money at the box-office, he said, “I just wanted to do something different. What’s the benefit when all are following the typical path? You have to have something else in your head. When I entered this industry, my primary aim was to earn money. I wanted to earn lots of money at that time which I earned eventually. Earlier, I used to listen to all directors and producers but now I produced my own films so when I am producing a film on my own then I can make a film which story I want to tell to my audience.”
Talking about people discouraging him to make socially relevant films, Akshay said, “When I made Toilet – Ek Prem Katha people around me advised that why you are making a film on open defecation and what kind of name you have given to your film. Earlier, 54% population of our country used to openly defecate but after my film and from efforts of government it has reduced to 32% so I am sure one with all our efforts we can solve the problem of pad also and I hope each woman of our country one day will use pads”
Talking about myths relating to menstruation Akshay said, “I have often heard that if a woman touches food items like pickle or papad during her periods then it will get spoil. I don’t know how all this works. Basically the rules was there is that when a woman goes through her periods then it’s a time for her to relax and shouldn’t go to kitchen and all the men should pamper but if you see how all these things have turned that she is not allowed to go in kitchen, she can’t even go to temple or if she touches a food then it will get spoiled so I hope all these outdated things changes when people will watch our film.”
Akshay Kumar felicitated 16 Indian innovators at the event so when asked Akshay what he feels about these unsung heroes of our country, he said, “I feel I am only reel hero but they are the reality of our country. I hope their journey will come forward in front of people because each one has an amazing journey while achieving their dreams so I hope film will get made on them and people will get inspiration from it because our country has brilliant minds out there”
