The makers of ‘Padmaavat’ hosted a special screening of the film for film fraternity amid tight security on Thursday in Mumbai. Film personalities like Shahid Kapoor along with his wife Mira Rajput, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Manish Malhotra, Richa Chadda, Ramesh Sippy, Kiran Juneja, Rekha, Luv Sinha, Ashutosh Gowariker, Kriti Sanon, Rajkumar Santoshi, Nitesh Tiwari, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Rajkumar Hirani, Anand L. Rai, Bonney Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Imtiaz Ali, Vikramditya Motwane, Niranjan Iyengar, ANu Malik, Gayatri Joshi, Oberoi, Yami Gautam, Sooraj Pancholi, Aditya Pancholi, Zarina Wahab, Rohit Shetty, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Alka Yagnik, Vikram Phadnis, Waheeda Rehman, Asha Parekh, Samir Soni, Neelam Kothari Soni, Ketan Mehta, Vicky kaushal and Ila Arun attended special screening of ‘Padmaavat’.
‘Padmaavat’ is based on the epic poem Padmavat (1540) by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, the film narrates the story of Padmavati, a Rajput queen who committed jauhar to protect herself from Khilji.
In ‘Padmaavat’, Deepika Padukone stars as Rani Padmavati, alongside Shahid Kapoor as Maharaja Rawal Ratan Singh, and Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji. Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad, and Anupriya Goenka feature in supporting roles.
‘Padmaavat’ released in India on 25th January, 2018.
For nearly a year now, the team of Padmaavat has had to battle attacks, sets set ablaze, threats of physical harm and a barrage of insults from the groups protesting against the release of the film.
The film saw packed theatres last evening, with people making their way to cinemas to watch the paid previews of Padmaavat.
Padmaavat opened to largely positive to mixed reviews from critics. Praise for Ranveer Singh’s performance has been more or less unanimous from the audience.
