Shilpa Shetty Kundra – I feel Unworthy of PETA Award


“I felt unworthy for the award, so I dedicated it to my sister,” said on the sidelines of award ceremony here in Mumbai.
Actress-entrepreneur has been honored with a ‘Hero to Animals’ Award by animal rights organization for speaking out against the cruelty of circuses; signing a petition asking the government to uphold the ban on jallikattu, bull races, and bullfights; and adopting a stray kitten.
Shilpa’s compassion towards animals was recognized on Saturday night by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals ().
“I don’t think of myself as a hero, in comparison to the work activist and people associated with it are doing. I think I still have a lot to learn and a lot has been left for me to do. That is why I’ve dedicated this award to my sister because I really felt, sitting in this room, I felt very unworthy for this award” said Shilpa.
Shilpa also added that she is a firm believer of “Ethical Treatment” for Animals and urges everyone to inculcate “compassion” towards an animal in their kids.
“I definitely believe that animals should be ethically treated and this is the first and foremost thing one should teach their kids. If kids understand compassion they will become far more responsible human being” added Shilpa.
During the ceremony, Shilpa Shetty got emotional watching the videos about cruelty against the animal, which actress found “Blood-curdling”.
“I was very emotional today, I don’t know why? I never thought I’d feeling this or I will be saying something like this, but once I got here and saw the videos, it was really blood-curdling” added Shilpa.
Other recipients of ’s Hero to Animals Award have included Zareen Khan, for rescuing a cat from the streets; Cyrus Broacha, for refusing to perform a stunt that involved riding a bull; Rani Mukerji, for helping a dog in distress on her film set; Asin, for saving a dog hit by a car; Imran Khan, for stopping a dog trainer who was smacking a dog on a film set; Sadha Sayed, for helping a puppy who just missed being hit by a car during a rainstorm; and Dia Mirza’s production house for showing that homeless animals make wonderful additions to families.
