Anurag Kashyap with Anand L Rai, actor Vineet Kumar Singh Zoya Hussain, Ravi Kishan, and Jimmy Shergill were present at the trailer launch of the film Mukkabaaz on Thursday. During media interaction director Kashyap said, he believe patriotism has become a formula.
When asked if patriotism surrounded by sports will overpower the film director Anurag said, “Patriotism has become a formula now, and we use it is films and in life. The film does comment on the matter a bit but doesn’t overpower it.”
Talking about the film’s title and its significance to word ‘Mukkebaaz’, Anurag said, “Mukkabaaz is like a cuss word used for a boxer, when people will watch the film it will make more sense in the context. Mukkebaaz are proper sportsmen whereas street fighters are called Mukkabaaz.”
Jimmy’s Character as a politician in the film is to break the boxer’s spirit, when asked if system plays such an important part in the sport industry Anurag said, “I think we are responsible for the sports scenario today. We can’t blame the system for the condition. There is a dialogue in film where Jimmy says, ‘if a film is made on Boxing it will make 40 Cores but not even 40 people show up to watch boxing tournaments. You can watch tournament videos on YouTube there is no audience for such matches. Whichever sports men we have in our country they have passion for the sports. System didn’t create them. We take pride only after winning a medal and not in the sport itself until and unless we do it, things won’t change.”
Produced is jointly by Anand L. Rai and Kashyap’s Phantom Films, the film stars Vineet Kumar Singh, Zoya Hussain, Ravi Kishan and Jimmy Shergill.
Mukkabaaz is scheduled to release theatrically on 12 January 2017.
