We make thrillers less because our films are latent with songs: Karan Johar

Filmmaker Karan Johar was spotted at the press conference of upcoming Ittefaq, along with Shah Rukh Khan and the film’s cast  Sonakshi Sinha, Sidharth Malhotra and Akshaye Khanna. During media interaction Karan said, we make thrillers less because our films are latent with songs.
Our films are ladened with songs, and that does not work with certain genres. Thiller cant work when you put 6 songs in it because then it stops being thrilling. you are stopping, singing and then start again. It breaks the film’s flow.  Thriller really works when it is songless, and Ittefaq is songless. You cant add 6 songs to a thriller to this genre if you add a song.
Shah Rukh Khan who was also present at the event agreed with Karan, he said, “Whatever the reason we do make very few of them. I don’t know if that’s because our films are ladened with songs but he knows well because e understands better.”
When asked if the star cast happy with little to no promotion, Sonakshi Sinha jumped to the occasion and expressed her happiness, “It was great not doing the promotion. But the way people reacted to this film’s trailer, I think people really connected to the film and took a liking to it. I felt like we didn’t have the need to go out there an talk about it. Promoting a film has become tougher than making a film so it was very refreshing.”
While Sinha enjoyed not having to go through promotion Sidharth Malhotra felt guilty, and as if he wasn’t doing enough for the film.
Directed by Abhay Chopra, Ittefaq stars Sidharth Malhotra, Sonakshi Sinha, and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles. It is an adaptation of the 1969 film by the same name which was directed by Yash Chopra.
The film is slated to release on November 3, 2017.
