This is the right time in the industry to encourage failure more than success: Sushant Singh Rajput

Sushant Singh Rajput was part of an interactive session for Bioscope at the 48th International Film Festival of India on Monday. During interaction Sushant said, this is the right time in the industry to encourage failure more than success.

In the olden days, people used to watch a film of their favorite act irrespective of the story but now content has become an important factor for films, when asked how he leads with this Sushant said, “The most important thing when I read a script is that I have to react to it. I cannot and I don’t, base my decision on how commercially viable the script it. If I read a script and don’t understand the character but I want to, I will do it. I don’t want to do something that I already know, that becomes boring. I might consider doing it when I need money. This can also backfire since I take parts that I can’t do and I might fail. But I think where the industry is right now, this is the right time to encourage failure more than success.”

When asked to comment about ‘Kai Poche’ and how the film is perceived as a work of art at the moment he said, “When you look back things always make more sense. But when we were actually working on the film it was a completely different story. When all 3 of us were working and Abhishek was directing, we were sure about one thing that is what we shouldn’t do. We had prepared a lot for it since we knew the script very well; we knew the bad parts that we weren’t supposed to do. What we didn’t know was what to do, but our director trusted us enough to let us work it out among ourselves.”

He further added, “We always want to predict and be in an aware state of mind but letting go is one way to make sure something new comes out of it.”

Sushant Singh Rajput trained for zero-gravity scenes and underwater diving scenes for the film. John Palmer, a special effects supervisor on Apollo 13 and The Martian, designed an 11-layer spacesuit for Sushant.

Sushant also has Tarun Mansukhani’s ‘Drive’ co-starring with Jacqueline Fernandez in the pipeline. ‘Chanda Mama Door Ke’ will release in January 2018.
