At the legendary Main Theater(MT), the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India, FTII, Pune held a special screening of ‘The Window’ as an invite film on 20th Nov 2017.
The Window team held a post-screening discussion session with the students and faculty from FTII.
The film revolves around the lead Lekh Kapoor a disillusioned struggling writer. Actor Amit Kumar Vashisth was praised by everyone for his powerful nuanced performance of the lead.
Most of the cast and the crew is from the institute FTII. Amit is an FTII alumnus and ‘The Window’ is his debut. Preeti Sharma, who plays Ayesha’s (Lekh’s wife) was also trained at FTII
Dhruvan Gautham the cinematographer, multiple award-winning filmmaker Aman Wadhan along with Amit Malhotra, who offered his expertise during the final stages of the editing of the film are from FTII. One the most sought after Sound recordist currently, Sanal George from the institute worked on the Location Sound for ‘The Window’.
During the discussion, students shared their understanding of the film. The philosophy of the film was perceived by everyone in their own way although the students at FTII shared one unanimous liking towards Lekh’s character.
When asked to rate the film as per the standard five-star rating system, stars flew from 4 to 3, which isn’t a bad beginning for the writer & director VK Choudhary, a 28-year-old young lad from Nagpur who dared to dream cinema and succeded.
The most appreciated part of VK Choudhary’s work was his technique of long takes and subtle dark humor. One more aspect that was unanimously praised was Vishal J. Singh’s refreshing originality in music.
Overall it was a very encouraging rendezvous at the FTII, which along with other reviews from critics and eminent industry personalities have made the makers to fix a commercial release date of the film ‘The Window’ as 1st December 2017. Do look inside ‘The Window’ opening at a theatre near you!
