Shooting of ‘Mere Pyaare Pyaare Prime Minister’ has been complete says Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra

Filmmaker along with Saiyami Kher and MP Poonam Mahajan attended Yuva Unstoppable’s initiative on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi birth anniversary on Monday in Mumbai. While interacting with media, stated that shooting of his upcoming film ‘Mere Pyaare Prime Minister’ has been completed.

Talking about his upcoming film ‘Mere Pyaare Prime Minister’, Mehra said, “We are working on a film. The shooting of the film has been complete. It’s a story of 8 year old boy who writes letter to Prime Minister of India and asks him certain questions  then goes to Delhi to hand over the letter to him. In the film, he wants to build a toilet to his single mother which has been played by Anjali Patil.”

“As per findings of UNICEF, 50% of rapes that happen India on women, they are violated when they go out to defecate so this is a huge number. I think it’s not about sanitation, it’s about basic necessity of somebody.”
When asked release date of the film, Mehra said, “We are releasing film around anything between February to July next year and release date of trailer will be decided by marketing team but it will come 1-2 month earlier before the release of the film. We really had fun shooting for this film. We shot this film in Ghatkopar East (Amrit Nagar). We shot this film by casting people who live in slums so with this film, I have intersected cause which I really believe in and because of that I never felt that I am working on a film and it was like daily routine”

There were news reports that Mehra is gearing up for a film which is based on Kabaddi, talking about that, Mehra said, “Scriptwriting is something I enjoy, but it is also very tedious and slow process. Sometimes it can take you 2 years, ‘Rang De Basanti’ took me five years to write and get it right. Yes, I am working with Ronnie Screwala and I think we should be ready with the script in a year or so, from today and then we will decide about shooting”

On the reports that Hrithik, who earlier agreed to the part, had later walked out of the film due to creative differences, he dismissed it as rumour and media speculation., Mehra said, “: “This is a wonderful thing, before I know things, media knows everything. Next time I will ask a journo what I should do.”

Talking about Yuva Unstoppable’s initiative, Mehra said, “Today is Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri’s day also, so wanted this campaign of ours, under which we are building toilets across the nation, so we have tried to do something special here in this school. We painted the school, provided toilet facilities, drinking water facilities. It all started 4 years ago and now it has gained momentum, till now we have provided these facilities in 550 to 600 municipal schools across the country”

Talking about social responsibility of citizens he said, “There is huge social responsibility for all of us. When we were working on this cause people say that we are giving back to society but I don’t think we are giving back to society. I think we are paying rent for living in the society. There is nothing like giving back or paying it forward or doing social work. Actually its our responsibility and that’s how I look at it”.

Mere Pyaare Prime Minister revolves around eight-year-old protagonist, Kanhaiya aka Kanu wants to build a toilet for his young, single mother Sargam played by National Award winner Anjali Patil.
