Swanand Kirkire who is playing a lead role in ‘Chumbak’ was present at the film’s MAMI film festival Premier on Friday. During media interaction he actor said, Marathi films industry is still a platform which picks non-streamlined subjects.
When asked if the film will be screened commercially and in other film festivals, Kirkire said, “It will be part of other festivals, it’s great that ‘Chumbak’ is part of MAMI and is opening the Marathi session. But I believe it’s important that a film gets a theatrical release. So we will try and release the film this year itself. It is true there are many few films made for kids, Marathi film industry is still a platform which picks non-streamlined subjects for film. I am sure this film will also perform great at the box office.
Swanand who will also be part of ‘Padman’ co-starring ‘Akshay Kumar’ said, ‘Akshay wishes to watch the film, and there is Rajkumar Hirani, R. Balki, Gauri Shinde and many more people whom I want to show this film to. I will be showing it to everyone. “
While talking about the film and his mentally challenged character it the film Swanand said, “I feel lucky that I got play such an important role in ‘Chumbak’. Mostly I have worked off-screen and now that I got this chance on-screen, I thought I should just take the challenge. The film is an equation of two very different people together, one is a kid who is very mature and another is an adult who is mentally challenged and is slow.”
The film directed and written by Sandeep Modi cast includes Swanand Kirkire, Sahil Jadhav, and Sangram Desai.
Produced by Mahesh Korade and Naren Kumar, ‘Chumbak’ will be commercially released by the end of 2017.
