“Malala has been an inspiration for so many women out there, I feel so happy that we are able to make this film and be a part of it. We have put a lot of research and detail into this film. The scene we are shooting today was the one where we have to leave our home. The film is progressing realistically and beautifully; because of the 8 cameras set up it doesn’t even feel like we are shooting.” Said Divya Dutta who is cast as Malala Yousafzai’s mother.
The film Gul Makai will trace Malala’s journey as a girl child, her fight for basic human rights in terror affected Pakistan and how the world recognized her. ‘Gul Makai’ was basically the name under which Malala had been blogging about happenings in her city, and it is dedicated to her!
When asked how the fraternity reacts to the film, Divya said, “Everyone is supremely proud. Whenever I mention that I am part of Malala, I get positive responses. People are really curious about the film and its process. There is a lot of buzz about the film and the poster. And as an audience, I really loved the film’s poster.”
The Bhaag Milkha Bhaag actress has worked with Atul Kulkarni in Delhi 6 will also appear together as Husband and wife in the film. While talking about working with his Divya said, Atul is very shy but we have a very good bonding, we have a lot of fun together. But he is an amazing actor I would go as far as to say he is a perfectionist. We know each other since ‘Delhi 6’ and while shooting her won’t just focus on his role but will also make sure everyone else around does well too.”
The actress also expressed her appreciation for a great year, with Babumoshai Bandookbaaz performing well on Box office and having a bunch of projects in making like ‘Raita’ with Irrfan Khan, ‘Fanney Khan’ with Anil Kapoor. She will also be seen with Nawazuddin in a film titled ‘Manto’.
Gul Makai stars Reem Sheikh, an Indian-Muslim actor who has been working in Television Serials as Malala Yousafzai, Divya Dutta as Malala’s mother, while the other cast members include the late Om Puri, Atul Kulkarni and Ragini Khanna.
