Rajkumar who was present at the trailer launch of his upcoming web series with Balaji Telefilms said, not a very conventional casting to play Netaji.

The lead actor Rajkumar playing Subhas Chandra Bose was asked how he prepared and transformed himself, Rajkumar said, “It was a huge responsibility to play Netaji for me. I am not a very conventional casting to play Netaji but when I was offered the part I was very excited. I am always looking for challenging roles as an actor. It started with first gaining weight and tried to look as close to him as possible, I even shaved my head half. I gained some 11 to 12 kgs of weight. There is so much material available about him there are so many books, documentaries and also his biography. I read as many as possible; I also visited his house in Calcutta and spent some time there.”

He further added, “But apart from all these things our script is so well researched. There was so much material available in the script itself that I wasn’t worried, I would have to go look for any material outside of it.”

When asked if he was nervous about facing criticism when he decided to play the role Rajkumar said, “I can’t work under pressure; I can’t think that what people will think if something goes wrong. I had to let go of everything and immerse myself completely in playing Netaji. I remember watching Gandhi a few years ago played by Ben Kingsley. He didn’t look exactly like Gandhiji but he made it so believable because he got the soul right, his emotional journey right. So we tried to look as close to him as possible but apart from that if we can get his soul right and his cause, passion, and love for the country it will leave us in a safer spot.”

Rajkumar was last seen in a recent release ‘Bareilly ki Barfi’ directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari with Ayushmann Khurrana and Kriti Sanon. He will also be seen in Newton Presented by Drishyam Films.

His future projects include 5 weddings with Nargis Fakhri, Love Soniaby Tabrez Noorani, Omerta by Hansal Mehta, and Ittefaq with Sidharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Singh.

The web series ‘Bose Dead or Alive’ will try to showcase the untold story of Netaji’s life. The series also stars actress Patralekhaa. She will play the role of an elitist Bengal woman.

The web series will air on Ekta Kapoor’s streaming service ALT Balaji.
