Aahana Khumra, who was present at the success party for Lipstick under My Burkha on Thursday, said our small film has become really big.
Aahana Khumra who play one of the leads in the film spoke about the film’s success, “Our small film has become really big. I think that speaks a lot. When I went to the mall and didn’t expect anyone to know me, I met a few girls in a store and they just came up to me and said, ‘you were so good in the film’. So I think that appreciation feels good.
When as an actor your work gets appreciated, and something that you a really stand for is supported by others, it feels great. I think a lot of women have really owned up to the film, this isn’t our film anymore this is everyone’s film.”
Lipstick under my Burkha had been surrounded by controversies since the start, due to its plot, Censor board and release date in India. The film has traveled across 35 countries and received 11 awards.
When asked if controversy made the film a success Aahana said, “If the film wasn’t good I don’t think this controversy would have happened. I remember everyone calling me up and saying that everyone is talking a lot about the film it better live up to the hype. When we went to watch the movie first, you won’t believe it, I have seen such responses in Salman Khan’s screening.”
She further added, “It was amazing to see people cheering on, singing along and to see so many women clapping to the same scene I thought it was fantastic. I don’t think the controversy has done anything the film is really good. The film has done its job.”
Ekta Kapoor, who backed the film and released it, was also present at the success party spoke about the film’s journey and success. She said, “It has been a tough journey for everyone, from the director to the production house even the censor board. But for us it was about, if it doesn’t collect on box office then more films like this won’t be made in future. So I am so happy that it has been a financial and creative success.”
