I would have hated myself if not released this film, Ekta Kapoor

I would have hated myself if not released this film, Ekta Kapoor.

Ekta Kapoor who was present on Wednesday at the Lipstick Under My Burkha Success Press Conference said that the success of the film is a win towards Cinema and I would have hated myself if not released this film.

Ekta Kapoor who backed the film and released it to the general audience was asked why did she choose to support his film, she said, “It wasn’t a producer’s decision; I decided to back this film because it gave me happiness. Professional gain is cherry on top of the cake for me, which was never the reason. It was very important for me to release this film. Because it is a great film and this was the first time women got a chance to tell their story. And as a female professional if I wouldn’t have released this film I would have hated myself for it.”

When asked if it’s a win towards society or CBFC, Ekta said, “I think it is a win towards Cinema. I came into films a few years ago I was in TV. My personal belief was that everyone tells you how films are. Something films just have their own way to reach the audience if they are good films. I think it’s such a big win for cinema.”

She further added, “After this film, filmmakers know that there is a group of audience who are interested in good films. And this group of audience will keep increasing.”

Lipstick under my Burkha had been surrounded by controversies since the start, due to its plot, Censor board and release date in India. The film has traveled across 35 countries and received 11 awards.

Ekta Kapoor, a Tv and Film producer expressed her thoughts about the film and its effect on the industry, she said, “There were two things happening simultaneously one was Censor board and the other was film’s release. There was a vibe in the industry that this film won’t earn beyond 20 lakhs on the first day of release. And the film will not last long in theaters. I was feeling bad because if this movie didn’t produce good numbers then more films like these won’t be made. It is a great story where people are entertained and it’s making them think too.”

Alankrita Shrivastava, the director also spoke about the open ending of the film, “I think this open ending is correct and realistic for these Characters. I thought it is good to have an open ending so that people go back with those thoughts. I don’t think life is so convenient, if something happened tonight, I will be able to change everything by next morning. I think it’s nice this way, the women are together and empowered and we don’t know what they will do next morning.”

Lipstick Under My Burkha is a black comedy written and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava. The film cast included Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur in lead roles. The film was released on 21st July.
