The trailer of Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao’s much awaited film Aligarh is out! Directed by Hansal Mehta, the hard-hitting movie tells the real story of Professor Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) who was ostracised when he was caught getting intimate with a man on campus. Siras was also captured on camera allegedly having sex with a rickshaw-puller and thus was suspended from his job. Not many know that he was married for 20 years before a divorce. Aligarh has the acclaimed actor Manoj Bajpayee playing Siras – a gay character difficult to essay on celluloid.
Speaking at the Aligarh trailer launch, Manoj Bajpayee said that acting as a lonely man was one of the most difficult jobs for him. He had said earlier, “We wanted to make a great film out of it. And not for a second we thought that we were making a film on homosexuality. We always thought we were making a film on somebody who deserved much more than what he got from the society.
