10. 777 Charlie

Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel, Mani Ratnam’s epic historical action drama film broke several box office records in 2022. The first of two parts, Ponniyin Selvan: Part I was simultaneously released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada and became a pan-India blockbuster. The all-star cast, including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, and Trisha, was particularly praised for their powerful performance.

Madhavan stars in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, a movie he’s also written, directed, and produced. He’d wanted to celebrate the life of Nambi Narayanan since 2017 and was so passionate about the project that he worked closely with Narayanan and altered his script based on his inputs. The movie was also graced with very special appearances by Shah Rukh Khan in the Hindi version and Suriya in the Tamil one.

Writer, director, and actor Rishab Shetty took the age-old theme of man versus nature and created one of the biggest hits of the year with Kantara. Particularly praised for its battle scenes and depiction of the ritual dance Bhoota Kola, Rishab created a world that enchanted fans and critics alike. It also led the Karnataka government to announce monthly allowance for Daiva Narthakas over 60.

With the triple threat of Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil in one movie, Vikram solidified the supremacy of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, comprised of director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s epic action thriller films that are impossible to look away from.
